Services for Individuals
Health Coaching
or Psychotherapy
– which service is best for you?
While health coaching and psychotherapy both utilize similar skills around change facilitation, there are significant differences between the two services. Let’s explore this more so you can decide what service is right for you.
Health Coaching
Health Coaching is best for people who are looking for support around a specific, targeted, health-related goal. It is time-limited, future-oriented, and not considered a mental health service. As such, it is not usually covered by insurance. Health coaching is mostly a virtual service open to anyone, regardless of where you live.
Examples of Targeted Goals: Creating sustainable workout routines, learning how to lift weights, exercise guidance for special populations such as postpartum people or older adults, intuitive eating, and managing a new health diagnosis with extra support alongside a medical team.
Psychotherapy
Psychotherapy is a mental health service where clinically oriented assessment, diagnosis, and interventions can be used to support healing. Psychotherapy includes exploring the past, present, AND future… a key difference from health coaching. Therapy can include elements of self-care and support for the body, but the focus is on your mental health and using clinical interventions that support healing. Psychotherapy is covered by insurance. We currently only work with Massachusetts residents for this service.
Examples of Issues Addressed in Therapy: Eating Disorders like Binge Eating, Orthorexia, Bulimia, Anorexia, Body Image, Anxiety, Depression, Burnout, Health Status Changes, Life Transitions.
HEALTH COACHING
Redefine health and wellbeing, your way.
At Body Peace Therapy, we understand that a weight-centric diet and exercise programming is exhausting and makes you feel bad about your body. As mental health professionals, we also know that studies show shame is a terrible motivator for sustainable change-making.
That’s why we take a weight-neutral approach to health coaching and empower you to build sustainable habits for wellbeing that are not defined by the number on a scale.
Examples of Targeted Goals:
Creating sustainable workout routines, including some personal training sessions
Movement support for special populations such as postpartum people or older adults
Meal Prep Tips and Inspiration
Intuitive Eating Support
Managing a new health diagnosis and needing extra support to do so alongside a medical team

Frequently Asked Questions
-
This term can mean different things for different folks, but to us it means this: you are worthy of unconditional kindness, compassion, and respect – from both yourself and the world around you - regardless of what your body looks like.
We also believe that supporting the physical body to find peace is integral to a mental health journey, and as such, utilize somatic approaches to healing in our psychotherapy services. This makes our definition slightly different from others you may have heard (body respect, body positivity, HAES, etc).
-
Weight-Neutral is the idea that a number on a scale does not define who you are or what your health status is. We do not use a scale or track weight as part of coaching work. For people looking to shift habits around health through our coaching services, we focus on behaviors rather than a # on the scale.
Why? Because things like eating a variety of foods, sleeping well, connecting with humans you love, moving your body consistently, and ending systemic oppression all have a greater impact on your health than weight alone.

While health coaching and psychotherapy both utilize similar skills around change facilitation, there are significant differences between the two services.

Psychotherapy is a mental health service that utilizes clinical intervention, assessment and diagnosis to treat mental health conditions such as depression, anxiety, ptsd, eating disorders, and grief.

Yes, but space is limited. We are siteless, which means sessions either occur in nature or in your home! We also have a network of weight neutral personal trainers that we refer to.
-
We offer both for Massachusetts residents. If you’re local to Western MA, we offer walk-talk sessions as well at local bike paths or nature reserves. This is subject to availability.
Insurance Info*
We are in-network providers for the following insurance companies:
Medicare
Blue Cross Blue Shield
If your insurance company isn’t listed, we are considered an out-of-network provider. For tips on paying for individual services offered by Body Peace Therapy, see below.
Health Insurance Reimbursement
Clients can obtain partial reimbursement for most of our services from their insurance company. As an out-of-network psychotherapy provider, insurance companies will reimburse clients a certain percentage of the total cost of therapy sessions when presented with a receipt. If your insurance is in-network, we will bill therapy services directly.
Most health insurance companies also offer $150-$200 gym/health club reimbursement. We’ve found that health coaching qualifies for this because it is done with a certified personal trainer and often includes workout design.
Health Savings Account
Many employers offer health savings accounts as a benefit to their employees that are pre-tax. Some of our clients pay for services utilizing their HSA account which is quick, easy, and convenient.
Check in with your Health Insurance Company and HSA Administrators to learn more.
*We are always updating this section and working hard to become an in-network provider on several insurance panels… check back in!
